A ROUSING speech from a former prime minister was one of the highlights of a recent Conservative party gathering.
Members of the Sonning branch held their AGM earlier this month, and special guests were Maidenhead MP Theresa May and her husband Philip – her constituency includes the village.
Also attending was Cllr Pauline Jorgensen who, as well as being leader of the opposition on Wokingham Borough Council, is the party’s candidate for the new Woodley and Earley seat in the forthcoming general election.

She said: “I was delighted to be welcomed by Sonning Conservatives to their AGM. Theresa and Philip May were with us and Theresa gave a rousing speech.
“It was a great opportunity to thank her for her years of service to the area.
“I find when I am out on the streets, talking to residents, many people, and not just Conservative supporters, make a point of telling me what a great local MP she is and how compassionate and caring she is.”
Cllr Jorgensen continued: “I told the attendees a bit about how my campaign is going and also about our recent victory in forcing the Lib Dems at Wokingham Borough to U-Turn on their decision to remove hundreds of litter bins.”
