A WOKINGHAM charity is looking for volunteers to assist adults with learning disabilities at its popular weekly activity programme, Gateway Wokingham.
Promise Inclusion supports adults and children with learning disabilities and/or autism, their parents, carers and their families, delivering on its promise that all people matter.
Every Thursday in Wokingham town centre, at its six-hour Gateway Wokingham sessions, Promise Inclusion offers participants the chance to develop life skills, and build confidence and independence.
They can also make friends and enjoy a wide range of activities tailored to their individual needs and interests.
At the sessions they can choose to work towards the Gateway Award, a structured programme similar to the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
This is a life skills programme for individuals aged 18 and older with a mild to moderate learning disability and/or autism, and it has no upper limit.
Or, if they prefer, participants can simply take part in activities that challenge, inspire and encourage personal growth.
The flexible programme offers something for everyone, helping members gain a sense of achievement while having fun, say organisers.
Volunteers can offer to support either a morning or afternoon session, or can stay for the full day, from 9.30am until 3.30pm.
