Gardeners in the RG10 postcode area are being invited to enter a new competition announced this week by Hare Hatch Sheeplands in Twyford.
In association with Twyford in Bloom 2016, Sheeplands is looking for the top front gardens in the area.
The garden centre’s owner Rob Scott said: “We have launched a competition which is open to amateur gardeners. We welcome entries from individuals, couples and families, but they must have an RG10 postcode.
“It has to be all their own work, with no assistance from professional landscapers or gardeners. It does not matter how large or small the front garden is, you are welcome to enter.”
Entrants will be contacted to arrange a time and date when their garden will be inspected.
“We are looking forward to meeting people and chatting about their gardens during the judging process,” said Mr Scott.
The competition winner will receive a £100 voucher to spend at Sheeplands with the second placed entrant receiving a voucher for £75 and the third a voucher for £50.
There will also be awards for entries which are commended by the judges for something they see during their visit. This might be for the best basket or planter, best use of small space or a particular feature that impresses them.
Hare Hatch Sheeplands is even offering competitors a bonus to get them started. All confirmed entries will be invited to visit Sheeplands to be given free seeds to get them started.
“We are always happy to be involved with community activities,” explained Mr Scott.
Working alongside the Twyford in Bloom organisers seemed a perfect way to add a little colour to the area and reward those people who help to make our area such a pleasant place in which to live.”
Entry forms are now available at the garden centre or can be made online until June 1 at www.harehatchsheeplands.co.uk. Judging will begin on June 15 and the judges will be announced later in the year.
