The Princess and Pickle from South Hill Park's festiva pantomime, Sleeping Beauty

WAKEY WAKEY! There is only a few weeks to go before South Hill Park lifts the curtain on its new pantomime, Sleeping Beauty.

The story needs little introduction: an evil witch casts a spell on a young princess: after pricking her finger on a spinning wheel, she will fall into an eternal sleep from which she can only be awoken by true love’s kiss.

Will true love find a way, amid visits from dangerous dragons?

Expect jokes, songs, laughter and slapstick fun for all ages.

This year’s show will see actors return from last year’s show, Jack and The Beanstalk: Michael Ayiotis as Pickle and Paul Toulson as Fairy Moppins. Also joining will be newcomers Nick Murphy as King Archibald of Bracknell, Charlie Nobel as Prince Percy of Slough, Josselyn Ryder as Villanelle and Maisie Scarlett as Princess Briar Rose.

Joyce Branagh, who won the 2023 UK Pantomime Award for Best Script for Jack and the Beanstalk (2022), is back to write this year’s show, and Victoria Spearing, who was nominated for Best Set Design is already crafting this year’s show.

Curtain up at the Bracknell-based theatre is on Friday, November 24, and the show runs to New Year’s Eve.
