Kingfisher A clinched the division 1 title after their two man team of Hari Gehlot and Martin Adams won 7-3 at Tidmarsh A.
Kingfisher C picked up four useful points in their battle against the drop, but still ended up losing 6-4 to club mates Kingfisher B, Nigel Keedy keeping up his hot streak for the B team with a fine treble.
Jason Roberts and Gary Morgan maximums saw Sonning Common & Peppard A close in on third spot after winning 8-2 against relegated Tilehurst RBL A.
An Ed Lush treble helped Sonning Common & Peppard C draw 5-5 at Kingfisher B, Matt Isherwood beating Alan Cummings and Matt Stone defeating Phil Mead 11-9 7-11 11-8 4-11 11-9.
Kingfisher D won 8-2 at Sonning Common & Peppard B, Graham Mendick recovering from 0-2 down to defeat Simon Berry 7-11 8-11 11-3 11-3 11-8 after earlier holding off a good display from Nigel Maltby to win 12-14 11-8 5-11 11-5 11-9.
Kingfisher C picked up four points despite a 6-4 defeat at Sonning Common & Peppard A to ease their relegation fears.
Tidmarsh A fought back from 1-3 down to win 6-4 at Tilehurst RBL A, Tony Baker with a good maximum.
In Division 2 Reading FC A were beaten for the second time this season, losing 4-6 to Kingfisher F, which meant that title rivals Sonning Sports A only needed to win or draw to regain top spot.
Although no-one was able to defeat Mike Childs, neither Tony Alleyne nor Wayne Alleyne were able to conjure a win, Kingfisher’s Eapen John, Roger Pritchard and Ajai Kamath each recording two wins, with
Tony coming closest to a win, before losing 11-9 11-9 8-11 9-11 6-11 to Eapen John. Reading FC’s fourth point courtesy of the doubles, Mike reprising his winning ways with Jazz Dhillon. Sonning Sports A duly defeated opponents Kingfisher E 7-3 and thereby won the Division 2 title.
Nick Sears and Paul Savage were both undefeated on the night, in both Singles and doubles, with teammate Bob Woodmansee unable to add to his tally, losing to Stephen Leggett, Abhay Gore and Luca Bianchi, his best chance at a win possibly his contest with Stephen, which he eventually lost 12-10 9-11 3-11 6-11.
Despite Sonning Common & Peppard D’s Danny Dockree winning all three, Tidmarsh C won 6-4 thanks to doubles from Ian Wu and Simon Craig, Ian & Simon also winning the doubles, with team mate
Richard Hudson picking up one win with his 11-13 12-10 11-9 11-7 defeat of Angus Jones, Mark Jones earning just one win for the Commoners, after a very busy evening, with all his singles requiring five games to determine the winner. Tilehurst Methodists A defeated Tidmarsh B 7-3, thus saving themselves from relegation by overtaking Kingfisher G, with one match to spare.
Eric Van Looy was again Methodists’ star player, winning all three, Bill Stamatiou losing to Francois Durand but defeating Chris Webb and Dale Ballard to record two wins, as well as partnering Eric to a doubles victory, with Phil Jones beating Chris but losing to both Francois and Dale.
In the intra-Club match at Our Lady of Peace, the B team were 6-4 victors over the C team, with both Darek Kaminski and Chris West recording trebles, while teammate Alistair Richardson ended the evening empty-handed, having lost to Binit Bhaskar, then Pradeep Desh and finally Kaan Kitay, although there were a number of pivotal games in his 11-13 11-9 10-12 3-11 loss to Kaan, the C team’s 4th point thanks to Binit & Pradeep winning the doubles.
The youngsters of Kingfisher I secured top spot in division 3 with an 8-2 win over Sonning Common & Peppard E in a match which featured a number of close sets. Theo Kniep got a very good three straight maximum for Kingfisher and Ian Davenport played well for SC&P winning one and just losing out 11-6 in the fifth to Etan Zeng. Tilehurst RBL B all but secured the runners up spot with an impressive 8-2 win at Milestone A.
John Willcocks and Kate Maksimenko got very good maximums for Tilehurst with the highlight of the night being Kate’s win in five against Zoltan Kelemen which saw Zoltan save a number of set points in game 4 which he eventually won 17-15 but Kate still managed to win the deciding game 11-6.
Tidmarsh D won a close match with Kingfisher H 6-4 with Ray Webb getting yet another maximum for Tidmarsh and Huzeyfe Borazan winning twice for Kingfisher including beating Terry Hardie 11-8 in the fifth. In the OLOP derby their D team beat the E team 8-2. Mark Carless got a good maximum for OLOP D including recovering from two down to beat Max Griggs 11-9 in the fifth.
Tilehurst British Royal Legion C finished their season by beating Sonning Sports C 6-4 thanks to hat tricks from Geoff Johnson and Paul Treadgold. The next day the Sports team lost to Our Lady of Peace F 10-0 with Alona Slobodskoy, Qing Wu and James Smith all gaining trebles. For James it was his first of the season. This result made sure that OLOP finish as runners up.
In the battle of the bottom two between Milestone B and Kingfisher J it was the away team that won by a 6-4 score line.
