WOKINGHAM Borough Council congratulates the borough’s more than two thousand GCSE students on their results.
Provisional figures show above average performance in Maths, and the proportion of pupils achieving grades 9 to 5 in English and Maths increasing from last year.
Local schools achieved the following provisional grades:
73% achieved grades 9 to 5 in English
71% achieved grades 9 to 5 in Maths, compared to a national average of 54 per cent
64% achieved grades 9 to 5 in English and Maths
84% achieved grades 9 to 4 in English
84% achieved grades 9 to 4 in Maths, compared to a national average of 72 per cent
79% achieved grades 9 to 4 in English and Maths
National figures for combined English and Maths are not available as the DfE now reports these separately on the results day.
National figures for English Language and English Literature have been published separately.
The council collects the results where pupils attain the required grade in either English Language or English Literature.
Numbered grades have replaced letter grades in recent years, with a grade 9 broadly equivalent to a high A* and a grade 4 broadly equivalent to a grade C, the standard pass grade.
Students are now being supported with information, guidance and advice on their next steps, whether that is progressing to A-levels, T-levels, apprenticeships, alternative education or skills-based training routes.

Cllr Prue Bray, executive member for children’s services, said: “Congratulations to all the young people receiving their GCSE results today.
“There is a great deal to celebrate across our borough this year.
“This success reflects the collective efforts of our schools, families, partners and wider community in supporting young people to thrive and achieve their potential.
“Many students will be enjoying some fantastic achievements today, whether that means securing top grades, exceeding their own expectations or gaining the results they need for their chosen next steps.
“We know there are countless individual success stories behind these results and every one of them deserves recognition.
“I would also like to thank parents, carers, families, teachers and support staff whose encouragement and support have helped our young people reach this important milestone.
“While today will be a celebration for many, I also want to reassure those who may not have achieved the results they were hoping for.
“There are still plenty of opportunities ahead, including sixth form, college, apprenticeships, T-levels and other training pathways.
“Support and advice are available to help every young person find the route that’s right for them.
“Whether you’re celebrating today or considering your next options, this is an important moment and the start of an exciting new chapter.
“I wish all our students every success and happiness for the future.”
Young people can find support and guidance on post 16 options at Elevate Wokingham, an information service on the council’s website.
They can request a Teams meeting or in-person appointment by completing a self-referral form on the site.
Free advice sessions are available at Wokingham Library on Friday, August 21, from 10am to 1.30pm, with no appointment needed.
