A LOWER EARLEY care home enjoyed celebrating one of our national days last week … it was dedicated to ice cream.
Among the highlights of the day, residents of Austen House were treated to a virtual talk from Wall’s marketing manager Sue Carruthers. She is part of Unilever’s Away From Home team, which supports the care sector.
She took residents on a fantastic journey through the history of ice cream, sharing fascinating details about the Wall’s brand since its launch back in 1922.
Staff and residents learned about major innovations such as the introduction of game-changing products throughout the years with the likes of Mr Whippy, Cornetto, Viennetta, Twister and Carte d’Or.
Residents reminisced about their favourite ice creams and were treated to a singalong to Cornetto classic ads, an interactive quiz about fun Wall’s facts and best of all, an ice cream tasting session.
Ms Carruthers said: “It was an absolute pleasure to be able to share the story of the Wall’s brand with the Barchester residents and hear all their reminiscences about the different ice creams and flavours they have enjoyed over the years.
“Mid-July is definitely the right time to celebrate Ice Cream Day.”
The day was appreciated by residents.
Bex Vernon, resident experience executive for Barchester Healthcare, said: “We are excited to work with our amazing partners like Unilever to bring a wide range of fantastic experiences into our homes for all to enjoy.
“It was great to see the residents all enjoying the talk and the delicious ice creams on a hot sunny day, they were so well received.”
And the home’s general manager, Joseph Patterson, said: “This was a talk, a quiz and a tasting session all rolled into one, it was brilliant that our residents were able to learn so much and enjoy the ice creams at the same time.
“It was a really enjoyable – not to mention delicious – afternoon, we’re so grateful to Sue for sharing all her fun ice cream facts with us.”
