Reading FC chairman Rob Couhig believes that the Royals has the potential to once again become a Premier League club one day.
Reading were first promoted to the Premier League after a record breaking season in the Championship in 2005/06 under legendary manager Steve Coppell and the ownership of Sir John Madejski.
After an exceptional debut season in the top flight where Reading finished in 8th position, they were relegated the next campaign on the final day.
Reading returned to the Premier League when they were promoted in the 2011/12 season under Brian McDermott, but lasted just one season this time around.
Since then, Reading spent more than a decade in the Championship before being relegated to League One in the 2022/23 campaign.
However, Couhig believes that the club has the potential to be a ‘mid Championship’ club in the relatively near future and also believes Reading can be a Premier League club one day.
He said: “There’s no reason why this club can’t be a mid Championship club within the relatively near future.
“I think we can contend this year to get promoted, I think it’s going to be difficult. I am super ambitious and optimistic. This club can be a Premier League club one day. But we put reasonable expectations on timing.
“If we don’t get promoted this year or get to the play-offs we buckle up and get ready and start over and we’re always ready to be better.
“My response to any problem is to look it in the eye, try and figure out the best course and work harder to make ourselves better.”
