THE Wokingham Art Society’s annual Summer Exhibition and Sale is in the frame for a bumper year.
Attendance figures and sales have already surpassed previous events with another full week of the exhibition still to run.
Publicity officer Mohan Banerji praised the standard of art on show: “The standard of talent is significantly higher than before as are the amount of sales.
“Last week’s opening was very busy and there has been a great amount of footfall all week.
“£We have a number of new artists exhibiting for the first time so it is wonderful to see so much new blood come through. Sales are also significantly higher which is, of course, wonderful for the artists.”
The 66th Summer Exhibition is being held at St Paul’s Parish Hall, on Reading Road in Wokingham, and includes paintings, ceramics and jewellery from members of all ages.
Renowned Berkshire artist Liz Chaderton was given the difficult task of selecting five winning entries from different categories with another five highly commended, also receiving a cash prize.
Added Mohan: “At some exhibitions, buyers have to wait until the event is closed before they can remove their purchases but this is a rolling exhibition with sold items available to be taken on the day. They are replaced by other works by the artists.
“Our Summer Exhibition is the perfect opportunity to purchase beautiful art works, ceramics and jewellery while also supporting local artists.”
The exhibition runs daily until Saturday, August 5, and is open from 10am to 5pm. Entry is free.
