Wokingham town hall was decorated to mark International Women’s Day on Saturday.
The initiative was down to the hard work of Lou Timlin, a town and borough council.
She said: “ I was delighted to see the town hall looking fabulous in her International Women’s Day colours.
“Of course, a huge thanks goes to the amazing Barkham Hookers who have created all these beautiful decorations.
“Although we’ve come a long way since some women got the vote in 1918, there is still real gender inequality and global events show us that hard won progress can be rolled back in the blink of an eye.
“Here in the UK we have a persistent gender pay gap, and it’s even worse for women who are also from an ethnic minority.
“There’s a huge gender pension gap and WASPI women have been kicked in the teeth yet again with the government’s recent decision not to compensate them.
“Women are under-represented in leadership, both in politics and in business. Which means 50% of the population do not have an equal say in decisions that impact them.
“Violence against women and girls is still endemic with a woman being killed every 3 days in the UK as a result of male violence.
“It’s hugely important that we continue to recognise and celebrate the equal rights that we have won.
“But as well as ensuring these are not lost, we need to push forward with ambitious goals for gender equality, stand up for our global sisters and be role models for our children.”
