The University of Reading is hosting a consultation event on its proposals for the Loddon Garden Village development between Arborfield, Shinfield and Lower Earley.
Attendees will be able to find out more at Maiden Place Community Centre in Earley today (Thursday) from 3pm to 7pm.
Loddon Garden Village is planned to be built at the university’s Hall Farm site to the south of the M4.
The university and its partners, Hatch Farm Land and Gleeson Land, consulted for six weeks in March and received more than 400 written responses.
This will be reflected in a statement of community involvement, which will eventually be submitted as part of an outline planning application for 2,800 homes.
Wokingham borough council has proposed allocating 3,930 new homes at Hall Farm as part of its emerging new Local Plan, a long-term vision for all kinds of development to 2040.
This would be supported by new developer-funded infrastructure, including a secondary school, a large country park, a bridge over the M4 and more.
If the university’s scheme is approved, the remaining homes would be provided through separate planning applications from Hatch Farm Land and Gleeson Land.
The plan underwent several rounds of consultation and is now awaiting independent examination by a planning inspector before it can be adopted.
Wokingham borough council needs to allocate housing in line with national planning policies, which are set by the government, or it could lose our power to reject less suitable proposals.
