Reading Football Club players have joined the local community for a charity Spinathon to celebrate the opening of the new Village Hotel Club in Reading.
The event, held on 27 January 2026, was organised in partnership with Reading FC and raised funds for the Reading FC Community Trust, the club’s charitable arm supporting health, education, inclusion, and sports participation across the area.
Throughout the day, gym members, hotel staff, and residents took part in continuous cycling sessions, collectively covering 346 kilometres, the equivalent length of the River Thames. Reading FC stars Jack Marriott, Paddy Lane, Will Keane, and John Clarke attended to support the event and meet fans ahead of the club’s weekend fixture against Northampton Town.
The Spinathon also gave visitors a chance to explore Village Hotel Club Reading, which officially opened its doors at the end of 2025. The new hotel offers a Health & Wellness club, stylish bedrooms, a Pub & Grill, meeting spaces, and a Starbucks coffee shop under one roof.
During their visit, the players tried out the gym, enjoyed games of shuffleboard and darts in the Pub & Grill, and interacted with the community.

Rob Lees, General Manager of Village Hotel Club Reading, said: “Our Spinathon was a fantastic event that not only helped us introduce the Village brand to the local community, but also raised vital funds for Reading FC Community Trust. I would like to thank everyone who took part – including Reading FC players Jack Marriott, Paddy Lane, Will Keane and John Clarke – for making the event such a success.”
Village Hotel Club Reading’s Spinathon marked the start of its charitable initiatives under Village Green, the company’s programme dedicated to supporting local communities, reducing environmental impact, and promoting wellbeing. Over the coming months, the hotel will host further community events in partnership with Reading FC Community Trust.
