A CROWTHORNE man has decided to celebrate his 90th birthday by jumping out of a plane.
Trevor Jones, no ordinary nonagenarian, will be carrying out his giant leap to raise money for Crowthorne charity for seniors, COATS.
This year also marks Trevor and his wife Maureen’s 68th wedding anniversary, but Maureen has very sensibly decided to keep both feet firmly on the ground.
Trevor moved to the Crowthorne area in late 2019 and soon made his way to the COATS Centre where he quickly made some new friends.
Originally from the North East, he served five years as an infantryman in the Green Howards before setting up a successful printing business.
Later, he retired to the sunshine of Cyprus 20 years ago and has since moved to Crowthorne to be near his daughter.
Trevor previously did a skydive to raise funds for COATS in 2020 at the tender age of 84.
He enjoyed it so much that he decided to repeat the challenge for his milestone, 90th birthday.
The aim of the COATS charity is to improve the well-being of older people who live in or near Crowthorne.
The COATS Centre for senior citizens provides companionship, freshly cooked meals, activities and entertainments from Mondays to Thursdays, between 10 am and 3pm, and on Fridays from 10 am until 2pm.
A minibus service is provided in Crowthorne to transport less mobile visitors to and from the centre.
The charity is supported by many volunteers who help the professionally qualified staff run the centre and the minibus transport, and its charity shop is run entirely by volunteers.
Trevor’s skydive will take place at Hinton Sky Diving Centre near Banbury on June 28, when he will be jumping out of the plane at 13,000 feet, over the Oxfordshire countryside.
He is hoping to raise £800 for COAT, and has set up a gofundme page for anyone who wishes to support his thrilling challenge.
