Wokingham’s motorists are set for more misery as another set of roadworks has been announced.
South East Water has announced plans to replace old pipes in Waterloo Road and Priest Avenue, in a six-month project that sees diversions and road closures in place.
A total of 1.2km of pipes will be installed between the junctions of Rances Lane and Tudor Close, including Buckhurst Grove.
The water company aims to use methods that will speed up the construction process including pipe bursting, where the new pipe is fed through the old, bursting the old pipe as it passes through, and pipe insertion, where the new pipe is inserted into the old pipe.
The work will start on Monday, July 27, and diversions will be in place to ensure a large enough working area that will keep the public and the workforce safe. The work is estimated to be finished by December.
The diversion for the Priest Avenue closure will be via London Road and Rances Lane, while those wanting to divert from Waterloo Road will have to go via Easthampstead Road and Old Wokingham Road.

South East Water Delivery Manager, Chris Love, said: “We carried out a lot of work in the town in 2012 yet there is still more to do to update the old network of pipes that run under the roads carrying water to people’s homes.
“Our new pipes will reduce the chance of bursts and leaks, meaning less disruption for the community from unplanned roadworks, flooding and interruption to water supply.”
