Reading FC Women’s manager Kelly Chambers is hoping this summer’s Euro’s will have a huge impact on women’s football.
With England set to face Germany in a mouthwatering final this Sunday at Wembley final, Chambers has been impressed with the quality of the tournament.
“England getting to the final is a fantastic achievement and one that is hopefully going to inspire every little girl in the country to get involved in football.
“The quality on display from every team has been amazing to watch from a coaching perspective.
“I’ve been impressed with how many people have been watching it, whether that’s on tele or in the stands and how many records have been broken.
“I’m at the final on Sunday so I’m very excited for that one. It’s going to be a great spectacle.
“The impact it’s having on this country and on women’s sport in general, I’m hoping it really takes off even further.
“If it doesn’t have an impact then we’re doing something wrong. Ian Wright hit the nail on the head the other day.
“We need to get football into schools for girls, they need to have access to make sure we give them the opportunity to play football and give them a pathway.
“I think it will be England’s toughest test of the tournament. It will be a challenge, Germany have never lost a final but England have momentum through this tournament and Sarina has been fantastic with them.”
Chambers was also full of praise for former Royals star Fran Kirby who came up through the ranks at Reading.
She continued: “Seeing her out on the pitch is nice after the 18 months she’s had on and off the pitch.
“To step out in a Euro’s final will be massive for her and I know it was her mum’s dream for her to do that with England. It will be a massive day and proud day.
“As part of her career growing up, It’s a proud moment for us to see one of our own step onto the pitch at Wembley and hopefully bring home the trophy.
“The mental toughness she has shown to get to this point has been phenomenal.
“She will be ready for it, she is made for these big occasions.”
