STUDENTS at a Wargrave school have returned from an unforgettable voyage at sea.
The Year 10 pupils from The Piggott School (a coeducational Church of England Academy, part of the Agape Multi Academy Trust) took part in an offshore sailing adventure aboard two 72ft ocean racing yachts with Tall Ships Youth Trust (TSYT).
The group embarked on a multi-yacht voyage, taking on every aspect of life aboard TSYT’s iconic Challenger yachts.
Working in teams alongside professional crew members, the students got hands-on experience helming, hoisting sails, navigating, and managing day-to-day life on the ocean alongside building vital life skills like resilience, communication, and independence along the way.
Dan Malyon, Head of Year 10 at The Piggott School, who was on the voyage, said: “I cannot recall a trip where I’ve received such positive feedback from students and parents upon our return.
“On board, the opportunities and experiences the crew offered the students was absolutely first class.
“They took the time to get to know each of the children and this allowed them to adapt and tweak the experience they offered them, which I know was hugely appreciated.
“In fact, 100% of our students agreed that they felt more confident in themselves as a result of their time on the voyage.”
The residential voyage challenged the Year 10s to step outside their comfort zones, embrace new responsibilities, and work together as tight-knit teams across both vessels.
Diana Bunescu at Tall Ships Youth Trust, said: “We are delighted to have welcomed the students and staff from The Piggott School aboard our Challenger yachts.
“Stepping onto an ocean-going yacht requires adaptability, teamwork, and courage.
“Seeing these young people rise to the challenge, support one another, and return home with renewed confidence is what our voyages are all about.
“They should all be immensely proud of their achievements at sea.”
Tall Ships Youth Trust is the UK’s leading youth development sail training charity, empowering young people aged 12–25 to unlock their potential through residential voyages at sea.
