A BOROUGH nursery has started a new community library.
Woodley Preschool organisers hope that people will enjoy donating and reading books from its zip-up bookshelves.
People are asked to donate items that they think others would wish to read, and to take away any that they wish to enjoy at home.
Shelving units have been placed just outside the nursery, one for adult books, and another for children’s publications.
The cabinets have plastic covers to protect books from the rain, and the library organisers ask that people kindly zip these closed once they have finished browsing.
Library organiser Suzanne Wooldridge, said: “It’s something I had been hoping to set up for a while, after seeing examples of this initiative on the Curiosity Approach Facebook page.”
The library is no longer short of books, having received lots of donations, but the organisers have found recent weather events challenging.
“Unfortunately, with all the rain, we’ve had to remove the cabinet containing the children’s books, as it wasn’t as waterproof as we had hoped,” explained Ms Wooldridge.
“But we expect to have it back up and running as soon as we’ve managed to source a new one.”
The community bookshelf units are situated on the external fencing around the nursery garden in Woodford Park.
