Reading Women v Chelsea Women - Kelly Chambers

READING FC has confirmed that Kelly Chambers has left her role as Women’s first-team manager and director of women’s football.

Chambers departs the Royals after more than two decades of service as both a player and a manager.

The club are now on the hunt to appoint a new manager after relegation from the Women’s Super League as are the men’s first-team after suffering the drop from the Championship.

Chambers was appointed as the women’s team manager in 2012 after she retired from her playing career.

She helped Reading gain promotion to the second tier in her first year in charge and then guided the team to the top flight in 2015.

Reading then enjoyed an eight year spell in the Women’s Super League which saw the club compete with the best teams in the country.

The Royals had a remarkable campaign in 2017/18 and finished in fourth position and lost just four matches all season.

However, their long spell in the top tier ended last season as they finished bottom of the table on 11 points, five points away from safety after winning just three of their 22 league matches.

The club has stated that they are now seeking to appoint a new boss ahead of the start of the Women’s Championship season in August.
