Tesco grant means children at Evendons can have more fun in the playground

A WOKINGHAM superstore has given three grants that will benefit two local primary schools and an entertainment group.

Tesco Wokingham funding totalling £3,000 will support children’s play and reading, and enable youngsters with learning difficulties to enjoy live performances in the borough.

Thanks to their Tesco donation, Evendons Primary School can now revitalise the children’s outdoor playing space.

The superstore has given them £1,500 as part of its Fruit and Veg Grants scheme, which awards funds to charities and community organisations making a positive difference to children.

Evendons Primary School will install a new wooden climbing frame to promote active play during break times, and develop a dedicated space for its pupils to build dens when the autumn term begins.

“It will make such a difference to our children’s experience at our school, because we all know the long-term benefits of being outdoors and getting exercise.

“The work is planned to be completed soon, and we’d very much like colleagues from the store to come along to see the completed structure in the new term.”

As part of the same scheme, Tesco has also donated £1,000 to Floreat Montague Park Primary School, and a further £500 to the Woodley Light Operatic Society.

Floreat Montague Park Primary School will use its grant to purchase new books for the modernised school library, with soft seating being added to create a fun reading experience for pupils.

For Woodley Light Operatic Society, the money it has received will enable children and adults with learning difficulties and those living with dementia to experience a more relaxed showing of the December performances of West End Musical Moments.

The Fruit & Veg Grants scheme, delivered in partnership with the charity Groundwork UK, forms part of Tesco’s wider Free Fruit & Veg for Schools programme, which aims to help one million children access free fruit and vegetables and build healthier habits for the future.
