AS ONE of a series of lectures about climate emergency, energy expert Simanand Gandhi-Jeyaraj will explain how Wokingham residents and business owners can upgrade their buildings to make them more energy efficient.
Mr Gandhi-Jeyaraj’s talk: Energy Efficiency and Climate Action: transforming homes and businesses for a sustainable future, is for anyone keen to learn how to cut their fuel bills by saving energy.
“My talk should be helpful for people who have no clue where to start,” he said.
“I’ll explain where to look for ways to improve the energy efficiency of your home or business premises.”
The Wokingham energy expert heads independent technology platform Simple Grids Ltd.
His aim is to make a difference and to accelerate decarbonisation.
And he hopes to do this by helping people to produce or store energy, to be energy efficient, and to gain utility services.
“Your building is your greatest asset,” said Mr Gandhi-Jeyaraj.
“It should be looked after the same way you look after your car.”
Simple Grids, is currently running pilot programmes to trial its services.
“We have carried out full assessments on the energy efficiency of nine homes,” he explained.
“Now we’re running a second pilot, analysing commercial buildings to see where they, too, can cut their fuel consumption.
“I’ve been shocked to discover that restaurants, pubs and hotels have been struggling with energy bills that have tripled since last year.
“It’s a problem that big franchises just don’t seem to be tackling.
“They talk about green programming, but seem to concentrate on presentation and show rather than on actual energy saving initiatives.
“And they really don’t have a clue when it comes to solar roof panels.”
Having worked for 30 years as an energy efficiency electrical engineer, Mr Gandhi-Jeyaraj can now share his knowledge and experience.
His lecture, one of Wokingham’s Walter Lecture Series, takes place at All Saints Church, Wiltshire Road, on Tuesday, October 31, at 7pm.
