BRIDGE maintenance work on the M4 means there will be a series of closures over the coming weeks.
National Highways have a programme planned for the M4 Burghfield Road bridge between junctions 11 (Reading) and 12 (Theale). Both carriageways are affected.
A spokesesperson for National Highways said: “Maintenance, including work on bridge bearings and fresh paintwork, is vital to ensure the long-term safety and integrity of the M4. Drivers are advised to follow diversions and allow extra time for their journeys and can stay updated by checking the National Highways webpage and Twitter/X.
“We thank everyone for their patience while we carry out this work.”
There is a full weekend closure from 9pm on Friday, June 28, through to 6am on Monday, July 1, on the westbound direction (towards Wales). This continues with overnight closures, running from 9pm to 6am, from Monday through to Thursday, July 4.
Work then switches to the eastbound carriageway (towards London) from Friday, July 5, with more overnight closures through to Thursday, July 11.
A second weekend closure runs from Friday, July 12 to Monday, July 15, again on the westbound side.
In the event further closures are required as a contingency, westbound will have overnight closures from Monday, July 15 through to Thursday, July 18.
Eastbound could be closed from Friday, July 19 through to Monday, July 22 in a weekend closure, with overnight closures possible from Monday, July 22 through to Thursday, July 25.
There are signed diversion in place.
Westbound: M4 J11, onto A33, A4 and back on the M4 via J12.
Eastbound: M4 J12, onto A4, A33 and back on the M4 via J11.
