THE FIRST two businesses to open in Wokingham’s Peach Place development have proved to be massive hits.
Last Wednesday, Waterstones opened its doors for the first time, while the following day GAIL’s gave away free loaves to customers to celebrate its arrival in the regenerated town centre.
And the shops have been packed with customers from the get-go.
On Saturday, Wokingham town mayor Cllr Julian McGhee-Sumner and Cllr Philip Mirfin, executive member for regeneration, visited both stores to officially open them and enjoy seasonal refreshments.
A spokesperson for Waterstones said that the launch was very successful, and since opening the shop has been beating its sales targets and is looking forward to a really strong Christmas.
Becky Ashley, Bookshop Manager, told The Wokingham Paper: “We were thrilled with the enthusiastic response from customers at our bookshop launch on Saturday.
“We’ve been wonderfully busy since opening in Wokingham and we’ve had so many kind messages.
“We’d like to thank everyone in Wokingham for their support and for making us feel so welcome.”
And a spokesperson for GAIL’s said: “There is always a buzz of excitement when a new GAIL’s bakery is launched.”
