PLACES Leisure Group already operates Wokingham’s Carnival Hub leisure centre.
It will now also manage the town’s boxing-themed gym, BXG Fit.
Tony Penge contract manager for Places Leisure said: “Today we are launching a new partnership with Wokingham Borough Council, to take over the management and running of the gym.
“We’re very pleased and excited to be involved with this project.”
Executive member for environment, sports and leisure, Councillor Ian Shenton from Wokingham Borough Council joined Mr Penge and the BXG Fit team at the gym to celebrate the relaunch.
“The council hasn’t really had the resources to enable it to utilise this asset to its full extent, so it’s been somewhat underused,” said: Mr Shenton.
“Going forward I hope it can be fully used by many more members of the community.
“We’re refocussing on sport and leisure at the council, to generally improve the health and wellbeing of our residents through activity.
“Today’s launch is part of that process.”
BXG Fit has been in operation for 18 months, run by the council’s sport and leisure team.
Management of the box fitness gym now passes to Mr Penge and his team at Places Leisure.
BXG Fit is located in Peach Place, Wokingham.
