MEMBERS of a fundraising society gathered in Crowthorne’s impressive Wellington College to celebrate their longstanding success.
The Rotary Club of Wokingham has been serving the borough through its charitable giving and fundraising activities for 75 years.
Members had much to celebrate at the club’s anniversary gathering, and were joined by special guests the worshipful mayors of Wokingham Borough, Cllr Carol Jewell, and Wokingham Town, Cllr Lou Timlin, seen here below with Rotary Club of Wokingham President Bruce Weir.

Further special guests were Rotary in the Thames Valley District Governor, and Rotarians from neighbouring clubs including the Rotary Club of Reading, who were the sponsoring club when Rotary Club of Wokingham was first chartered in 1951.
Its purpose has always been to bring together like minded people to foster friendships, provide support to the community, and to deliver the Rotarian promise to give Service Above Self.
Current president Bruce Weir said in his introduction that the club is committed to continuing to fufil its pledge for another 75 years and more.
The evening began with a sparkling drinks reception in the college’s Great School Room, to quality entertainment provided by Emmbrook musical duo Silver Foxx.

“More than 75 people celebrated 75 years of the Rotary Club in Wokingham with us,” said Wokingham Rotary Vice President James Berkeley.
“We were delighted to be able to hold this very special event in the amazing surroundings of Wellington College.”

Following the drinks reception, the assembled guests were able to enjoy a Celebratory Dinner in the Waterloo Hall, where a silent auction was held during the evening in support of DEBRA UK, also known as the butterfly skin charity, for people with epidermolysis bullosa (EB).
Items for auction had been donated by local companies and Wokingham Rotarians, and raised a total of just under £500.

The Wokingham Rotarians meet at Wokingham’s Ship Inn twice a month, on the second and fourth Monday evenings, at 7.30pm, to make a difference locally, nationally, and internationally.

They contribute to a number of major local events, including Wokingham Fireworks, Wokingham Christmas Carnival, Wokingham May Fayre, and WASMA.
And they encourage anyone with a love of volunteering and helping others, to join them in their efforts.

They thank all their friends, family and neighbours for celebrating the club’s 75 years with them.
