AS THE May Bank Holiday approaches, the NHS has issued a regular reminder to collect prescriptions in preparation for partial closures over the coming weekend.
Some community pharmacies and all GP surgeries will be closed on the bank holiday and patients are being encouraged to order their repeat prescriptions as quickly as possible.
Dr Lalitha Iyer, chief medical officer at NHS Thames Valley Integrated Care Board, said: “Help yourself stay well over the bank holiday by making sure you have enough of your medication to see you through.
“It’s best to get your usual medications well in advance, especially if you’re going away. Do check in with vulnerable family members, friends and neighbours that they have the medications they need.
“You can easily order repeat prescriptions via the NHS App or get in touch with your General Practice online or on the phone to make sure you have what you need.”
She explained: “If you do run out of your medication, NHS 111 online can offer advice on how to get an emergency supply–but it’s always best to be prepared.
“Community pharmacies can also advise and prescribe medication for minor conditions, so you don’t need a GP appointment.”
