NOTTINGHAM Knockers have been operating in Wargrave.
Residents have reported unsolicited callers in the area, and police are reminding those who live in a No Cold Calling Zone (NCCZ) to take the following action:
- If you have elderly or vulnerable neighbours make sure they know not to answer the door to cold callers, sometimes they are not so confident in sending the Nottingham Knockers on their way and may feel obliged to buy something.
- Make a note of the time and date of the cold call; the name of the company or business; a registration number and details of any vehicle they are using; and a note of what was said along with a description of the individuals.
- Forward any information to Trading Standards at tsadvice@westberks.gov.uk.
- If you have displayed a NCCZ sticker, any cold calling could be deemed a banned practice under Schedule 1 paragraph 25 of the consumer protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008.
If the caller becomes aggressive or you feel threatened, call 999.
