Reading FC fans have reacted following an opening day collapse as the Royals let a 3-1 lead slip to lose against Luton Town.
Star striker Jack Marriott fired in a sensational first-half hat-trick to give Reading a 3-1 half-time advantage before things turned pear-shaped in the second 45 minutes.
Reading’s lead was quickly diminished after the restart courtesy of a Kasey Palmer double before the final hammer blow was struck deep into stoppage time when Gideon Kodua completed Luton’s comeback in the 96th minute.
Fans gave their reaction after a turbulent game which ultimately ended in disappointment.
One fan said: “At least he (Leam Richardson) spoke up and spoke to what most if not all of us fans are saying and thinking. It’s one thing saying it though it’s up to him and the players to actually do something about it. It’s easy to say it but completely different in changing so we don’t see this anymore.”
Another fan commented: “This defeat is down to the owners. Simple as that. Manager said what he wanted and not given it.”
Another added: “Hope you have seen this Rob Couhig and Todd Trosclair we need reinforcements but quality, forget the £5million on the ground upgrades, get it happening on the pitch.”
Another supporter criticised Reading’s second-half collapse and said: “Second-half syndrome strikes again under Richardson. We’ve been crying out for a left-back for over a month and our owners are just stalling with transfers. Gutted for Jack Marriott, in particular.”
Another said: “Gave up at half tine and then took off the only striker. It’s blindingly obvious these owners haven’t got a clue. All that rubbish about ‘football for the people’ and polishing the seats and they don’t sign and strikers or CB’s. Spend your cash or sell the club.”
One more said: “Last season we were poor defensively and again we are poor defensively. We have failed to bring in quality signings at the back.
We cannot rely on Marriott carrying us. He is injury prone and it is unsustainable.
Brown strikes confidence in defenders. Poor start to the season.”
