Rubbish collections across the borough will take place on different days during the Christmas and New Year holidays.
Refuse collections
The days have changed because of the holiday period. Wokingham Borough Council has a handy postcode checker on its website – just input your postcode and it will tell you when to put your blue bags out.
If your rubbish is collected on Fridays, your Christmas Day collection will be on Monday, December 28, and, for New Year’s Day, on Monday, January 4.
Collections between Monday, December 28 and Wednesday, December 30, move forward a day (Monday to Tuesday, Tuesday to Wednesday, Wednesday to New Year’s Eve).
Collections on New Year’s Eve will now be collected on Saturday, January 2.
New Year’s Day collections will be picked up on Monday, January 4.
Collections from MOnday, January 4 to Friday, January 8 will be moved back a day – Monday will be picked up on Tuesday, Tuesday on Wednesday and so on. The Friday, January 8 collection will be collected on Saturday, January 9.
Normally service resumes on Monday, January 11 and garden waste collections remain the same.
Recycling
If you can’t wait to recycle your wrapping paper and empty boxes, the recycling centres are open as normal every day apart from Christmas Day, when they are closed.
Remember, non-metallic wrapping paper can be recycled as normal, but metallic wrapping paper must go in the blue bin bags.
The normal opening hours during winter for the centres are 8am to 6pm and the centres are at Longshot Lane in Bracknell and Smallmead in Reading.
Christmas trees
If your tree needs to come down before January 6, you can cut it up and place in a brown bins or brown sacks and it will be collected with your other garden waste.
You can also take them to the recycling centres in Bracknell and Reading – the staff ask that you remove your decorations first and chop them down.
Christmas cards
Your cards can be collected at Sainsbury’s and Marks & Spencer for recycling for the Woodland Trust. Paper cards can also be put in recycling boxes.
