STAFF, residents and families at a borough care home got moving recently.
At Barchester Healthcare’s West Oak Care Home in Wokingham, they played games of skittles and balloon tennis.
With Mark from Winnersh fitness club, Moveball, they had fun exercising while raising money for Barchester’s Charitable Foundation.
Established in 2000, the foundation supports older people and other adults living with a disability or mental health problems, helping them to connect or re-connect with others within their community.
Last year, the foundation raised £424,000 which enabled it to provide help to 262 small groups and charities, as well as 123 individuals.
To boost the foundation’s funds further, staff and residents at the home invited family, friends and members of the community to join in the Moveball fun – a way of keeping fit with balls of different sizes and involving the whole body.
General manager at West Oak Louise Jones said: “We had the most wonderful day, it was so lovely to see everyone come together to take part and raise money for Barchester’s Charitable Foundation.
“It is a great charity that helps many people in need, particularly lonely older people, which is a cause very close to our hearts.
“Plus, it’s good for our own wellbeing to move as much as we can.
“We want to say massive thanks to everyone involved, we all had so much fun and we helped raise vital funds into the bargain.”
