2022 Candidates
David Cornish, Lib Dem

I have lived in Finchampstead for nearly 40 years. My working career was in business management, sales and marketing with a multi-national chemical company, with a focus on innovation and sustainability. Since retiring I have been an active member of Finchampstead Parish Council where I played a leading role in producing the Finchampstead Neighbourhood Development Plan. I lead on our rights of way for walking, cycling and riding. My passion is ‘being outdoors’, as a member of the National Trust, The Ramblers and British Canoeing as well as an enthusiastic (rather than competent!) cyclist and golfer. I believe that politics is about ‘people’, not ‘parties’, and that ‘tribal politics’ shouldn’t get in the way of working together for the benefit of the community.
Bernadette Mitra, Conservative
Having been a resident of Finchampstead South for almost 15 years and I know very well what matters to residents here. I am actively involved in local issues.
I am a Trustee for a charity and do freelance consulting. I am determined to focus on serving the residents of Finchampstead South by continuing the work that is being done by the current Conservative Councillors. By working closely with other Conservative Councillors, we will have a strong and unified voice in the council.
Wokingham Borough is often voted one of the top places in the country to live and this attracts more and more people who want to live here. We need to protect the village from development and maintain the facilities for local residents. More houses will put pressure on the doctors, schools and roads. I will work with the other Finchampstead councillors to fight against over development and to preserve the character of the village.
Finchampstead is already rated as one of the most desirable places to live in the UK. I will work hard to ensure that residents are well represented at Wokingham Borough Council.
