IT’S ALL change at Wokingham Town Council after it fell into no overall control in May’s local elections.
On Sunday, May 19, Cllr Lynn Forbes has been elected as the new Town Mayor, while on Tuesday, May 21, Cllr Imogen Shepherd DuBey was elected as town council leader.
At a special ceremony held in the town hall on Sunday, Cllr Forbes donned the mayoral robes for the first time.
A choral performance by children from Westende Junior School and members from Windsor and Maidenhead Symphony Orchestra provided charming accompaniment to the proceedings.
Her Deputy will be Cllr Tony Lack and her charity of the year is the Diana Brimblecombe Animal Rescue Centre.
After the ceremony there was a civic parade to Wokingham Baptist Church in Milton Road.
Cllr Forbes said: “I am honoured that our new Council have faith in me to be the figurehead of the Town Council and I will work really hard so that they and you can be proud of their choice.
My vision for Wokingham is to engage our youth, who are our future, to grasp the responsibility of making Wokingham the place they want it to be. I hope to ensure I can continue to champion my two innovations: Graffiti and Litter Eradication; and Students on Town Council Committees.
That and the privilege of representing and working with the amazing people of our Town Council, our Councillors and you the residents of Wokingham. Thank you.”
