THAMES Valley Police has sentenced a man from Hertfordshire to jail time following a series of offences in Woodley, Reading, and High Wycombe.
Delwin Grant, aged 44 and of Canterbury Road, Hertfordshire, was sentenced to eight weeks’ imprisonment and was disqualified from driving for 15 months at Reading Magistrate’s Court on Friday, June 23.
Grant pleaded guilty to five separate counts of theft from a motor vehicle and one further count of dangerous driving.
It follows a series of thefts which took place in a number of locations earlier in June, including theft from a motor vehicle at Sonning Cricket and Hockey Club in Reading on Thursday, June 15, theft from a motor vehicle in Sonning and another on Scours lane, both on the same day.
It also followed theft from three vehicles in Woodlands Avenue, Woodley, on Wednesday, June 21, and an incident of dangerous driving in Handy Cross, High Wycombe, also on Wednesday, June 21.
He was charged on the following day, Thursday, June 22.
Investigating officer Detective Sergeant Jon Hare based at Loddon Valley police station, said: “Bracknell and Wokingham Priority Crime Team have successfully secured a conviction at court for a prolific offender committing cross-border theft from motor vehicle offences in Reading and Wokingham boroughs.
“Initial proactive work from Joint Operations Unit roads policing and dog handlers, stopped a vehicle linked to theft from motor vehicles and arresting Grant.
“After an investigation, this has led to this positive result for our victims of crime, with a prolific offender being convicted at court and receiving a custodial sentence.
“A number of stolen items have been recovered and returned to victims.
“Please continue to be vigilant and not leave valuable items in vehicles, and report any suspicious behaviour to police.”
