Clive Jones, the MP for Wokingham, has called for the government to scrap the 10% commission residents of park homes must pay to site owners when selling their homes.
The six park home estates in the Wokingham borough are home to many retirees on fixed incomes who have downsized to park homes to release equity.
The MP noted that park home residents are being forced to pay 10% of the sale price to the site owners of the park when selling their park homes.
This 10% charge “can amount to tens of thousands of pounds”, according to Clive Jones.
During the ‘Park Home Owners’ Westminster Hall Debate on April 28, Clive Jones MP said: “People delay moving closer to their families and put off downsizing further.
“Even when their health declines, some remain in homes that no longer meet their needs simply because they cannot afford to lose such a large portion of their asset.
“No group of homeowners should face a system that strips away rights and imposes disproportionate financial penalties.”
Following the debate, Clive Jones, the Liberal Democrat MP for Wokingham, added: “This unfair and exploitative 10% commission on sale prices has an enormous impact on park home residents, many of whom are retired and do not deserve to be penalised just for selling their homes.
“The residents who take pride in their park home estates in my constituency deserve better. Park homeowners deserve to be treated fairly, like all other homeowners are.”
