MEMBERS of a borough repair group are looking forward to sharing their mending skills at their next session, their aim to help people avoid throwing away useful items that could have more life in them.
It’s a special week for the Repair Cafe at Lambs Lane Primary School – their next session marks the group’s fourth birthday.
“We’re so excited to be celebrating four years,” said the group’s founder, Billie Bachra.
“Without the support of our local community we would not be here.
“Month after month people are visiting us with their broken household items, and we happily take on the challenge and try our best to repair them.
“We always encourage visitors to participate in the repair, too, and we can give lots of good advice.”
The group is now also supporting young people in their volunteer journey by running a structured apprenticeship program.
“We currently have six young people with us working towards their Duke of Edinburgh Awards, and this month we’re running a masterclass in maintaining and fixing bikes,” added Billie.
What will you bring for the group to fix at their next session?
Menders are happy to look at a variety of household items including textiles, suitcases, broken zips, electronics, toys, lawn mowers, vacuum cleaners, tool sharpening, CD players, and many more unlisted items.
“If your bike needs some TLC, bring it along, and enjoy some birthday cake while you’re with us,” said Billie.
Lambs Lane Repair Cafe meets on the third Sunday of the month.
Its next session – and birthday celebration – will take place at Lambs Lane Primary School, Spencers Wood, on Sunday, May 17, from 10am until 1pm.
