A WOKINGHAM-based charity that helps children with additional needs take part in clubs and groups such as Scouts held a party to celebrate its 20th anniversary.
The Me2Club welcomed families, staff members and supporters, both past and present, for the anniversary event held at Camp Mohawk in Wargrave.
The charity works with children aged five to 19, helping them attend a weekly mainstream activity of their choice, regardless of their additional needs or disability. A helper attends with them to ensure smooth integration.
Organsisers said the party, held on Sunday, August 20, was a lovely occasion, with good weather adding to the day.
The founder of Me2Club, Catie Blundell, was among those attending.
She shared about the origins of the club, and reflected on how it had developed.
“Being invited to the 20th anniversary of the Me2Club was a huge honour and I felt truly privileged to be part of the celebrations,” she said.
“My vision 20 years ago when the charity first began, set up on a successful application to the lottery fund, was to support as many children and to give opportunities to local young people to enrich their lives through volunteering.
“I never even considered the growth the charity has now gone through with dedicated trustees and staff that have the same passion for inclusion as I do.
“It’s truly remarkable the Me2Club is an established charity and carries on delivering such great outcomes for the community, the families and most of all the children.
“Happy anniversary Me2Club – carry on the great work.”
The event included the presentation of its volunteer awards, a way to thank people for the difference they make to the charity and the lives of the families they support.
Me2Club Young Fundraiser Award went to Megan for her sponsored walk.
Ritchie raised more than £1,000 by undertaking a virtual London Marathon last October. This saw him win a fundraiser award.
Sue was awarded the Me2Club Service Recognition for her contribution to the charity.
Corporate support went to KPMG, which has supported Me2Club by fundraising, and also help volunteer at sessions.
Priyesh won the impactful relationship award for their relationship with the child they helped, while Anu was recognised for their longstanding commitment to volunteering.
An extra mile award was presented to Rose.
And the Alexandra Briess Award, presented in her memory, was awarded to Louise Nalule for embodying many of the qualities that made Alex special such as: a strong sense of equality, enthusiasm, dedication, having a significant impact, and going the extra mile.
Me2Club wanted to thank Tesco Wokingham for donating celebration cakes and KPMG for funding the event.
