We call this Shared Reading.
In a world that feels increasingly divided, and with increased pressures on our mental health, Shared Reading offers us time and space to share what matters to us.
Our work improves wellbeing, reduces loneliness and helps us find new meaning in our lives.
The Reader is looking for people to lead a Shared Reading Group at Wokingham Library.

Volunteers receive a transformative six training course (four-hourly modules, live, online), plus an ongoing support package. NB: the Reader Leader role requires a commitment of about four hours a week to cover training, then weekly preparation for the group and delivery time of up to two hours.
If you like meeting people in a social environment, have an understanding of dementia or working with vulnerable people (either through life experience, volunteering or work) and are free on week days we would love to hear from you.
Age UK Berkshire run activities and groups for people living with dementia and their carers in Wokingham Borough.
These include singing cafes, general activity cafes and walks, run by our staff and volunteers.
We are looking for more volunteers to support with these activities which are held around Wokingham Borough, including Wokingham Town Centre, Grazeley, Earley, Shinfield, Woodley.
The role will involve; helping to set up the sessions and tidy afterwards (cafes) talking to the clients and make sure they feel welcome and valued, making tea and coffee, and serving cakes/biscuits
Joining in with the activities and having fun. Volunteers would need to commit to a minimum of one session a month. Time commitment would be approximately three hours per session.
Travel expenses are reimbursed.
As a volunteer, you gain the satisfaction of making a difference to the happiness and lives of those living with dementia and their carers in the Borough.

The Wokingham Volunteer Centre is a registered charity that works with and places volunteers in a wide range of community, voluntary and charitable groups across the borough.
We work with, and support, groups and organisations that require volunteers (including providing training).
We promote the benefits of volunteering to the local community and run a number of schemes including the Wokingham Transport Scheme and the Green ‘n’ Tidy community gardening service. The Trustees of Wokingham Volunteer Centre need a volunteer to take minutes at their monthly meetings.
These take place once a month on Monday mornings, last no longer than two hours and are held at our offices in the Community and Charity Hub in Wokingham Town Centre.
After the meetings, the role includes writing up the minutes and circulating to the board. Key skills for this invaluable role are attention to detail, an interest in the work of the Volunteer Centre and an appreciation of the need for confidentiality.
