An unassuming house in Woodley has again been transformed into a Hallowe’en wonderland, with the aim of generating funds for a local children’s hospital ward.
Ronnie Goodberry’s has transformed his home in Shackleton Way in the ‘House of Hallowe’en’, with donations from visitors going to BiBs (Babies in Buscot Support) a registered charity that supports babies and their families in the special care baby unit at Buscot Ward at the Royal Berkshire hospital.
Speaking to Wokingham Today at the opening on Tuesday, Ronnie said: “I just want to give something that everyone will remember.”
The event started during Covid when, Ronnie said, the children had nothing to look forward to. It has now become an annual event.
“Hallowe’en has become my baby,” he said.
Ronnie has created a QR code for visitors to scan to make donations, as well as providing buckets for cash offerings.
“If I am able to raise 500 for this deserving charity, I’ll be more than happy.”
Liz Josif, fundraising manager for BiBS, was very impressed with Ronnie’s work.
She said: “It’s amazing, and as a little charity we are immensely grateful he’s chosen to support us.”
Cllr Kay Guilder, a former Woodley Town mayor who helped open this year’s display, praised Ronnie’s efforts.
She said: “I think he’s fantastic man to raise so much money for so many different organisations.”
Woodley Scaffolding has installed an all-weather covering for the event, thanks to its staff Ross Carvill, Frank McConnell and Ewan McLachlan.
Ross said: “We got the call to help, and we are more than happy to help such a worthwhile cause.”
Ronnie’s Hallowe’en display will be open until October 31.
