‘Everyone in the country now knows what is going on there’: Podcast highlights issues at Reading FC

Popular football podcast ‘The Football Ramble’ took to their platform to highlight the issues at Reading Football Club.

Reading has gained both national and international coverage after fans took to the pitch to get their League One clash with Port Vale abandoned in protest of owner Dai Yongge.

Hosting one of the most listened to football shows in the country, hosts Marcus Speller, Pete Donaldson and Vithushan Ehantharajah spoke about the troubles that the club has faced under current owner Dai Yongge.

Host Marcus Speller said: “This has been an ongoing thing at Reading for many, many years. It’s a dire situation, they’ve had heavy point deductions, minus four points this season. Financially they are all over the place and were given a winding up order in October.

“The ramifications for this is that some people are saying they may have to play a number of games behind closed doors as a result. It’s a desperate situation and the fans are clearly fed up of it, fed up doesn’t even get to the heart of it.

“Everyone in the country now knows what is going on there.”

Vithushan Ehantharajah added: “More power to them (the fans). I was quite encouraged by the reaction from other supporters. The Port Vale fans were applauding them.

“They’ve had so many issues. They’ve lost their catering staff at the training facility. As ever, it’s the people lower down who are feeling it. There’s been loads of redundancies as well.

“It’s got to the stage where they’ve had protests walking through Reading, tennis balls, this is what it has come to.

“You can see by the way it starts it’s a few fans in the centre circle and then more and more get involved.

“It’s exactly the kind of thing that gets wider attention. I thought it was really well done.”
