A CHARITY concert starring jazz saxophonist Art Themen will benefit people in the borough who need a helping hand.

Art Themen and Friends will entertain a Wokingham audience with their brand of swinging music, with all proceeds from the event going to borough charity Wokingham In Need.

Self-taught Art, (who was originally an orthopaedic surgeon) has a long string of discs to his name.

He became involved in the traditional jazz scene in Manchester in the late 1950s, and was a member of the award winning Cambridge University Jazz Band from 1958 to 1961, before joining the early London blues scene.

A previous winner in the tenor sax category of the British jazz awards, he has toured the Stan Tracey’s quartet for 20 years and has been featured with virtually everyone on the UK jazz scene.

In addition he has played alongside American legends including Philly Joe Jones, George Coleman, Red Rodney, Al Haig, and Charlie Rouse, while outside the jazz scene he has accompanied Mick Jagger, George Harrison, Rod Stewart, Jack Bruce, Joe Cocker, Chuck Berry, Alexis Korner, and even Bing Crosby.
