AN EXHIBITION in Wokingham will give visitors an opportunity to watch artists at work as they capture the town’s essence in paint.
Wokingham En Plein Air is an Art Competition and Exhibition that will see up to 122 artists at their easels in 49 locations throughout the town and in nearby California Country Park.
During a six and a half hour period, artists will capture the heart of Wokingham, celebrating its streets, green spaces, and local character.
As they do so, residents and visitors will be able to observe them at work, and to see the resulting outdoor exhibition.
The event has been conceived and organised by Richard Young of R Young Art, in collaboration with Wokingham Town Council and local partners.
“It promises to be Wokingham’s largest and most ambitious community art project yet,” said Richard.
“It’s going to be a fantastic, creative experience for everyone.”

Tickets are selling fast, he says, with 11 of 49 locations now sold out, and 37 artists so far participating.
Artists of all abilities are invited to sign up to take part in the live painting challenge, with an artist’s goodie bag available for each registered participant.
At the end of the day, artworks will be presented in an exhibition in Wokingham’s Market Place, with prizes to be won.
First prize will be £1,000 and £150 of art materials; £500 and £100 of art materials will go to the runner up; and the third prize winner can expect to take home £250 along with £75 worth of art materials.
A further People’s Choice award will offer £250 and £75 of art materials.

Artists will be at work in Wokingham on Sunday, June 14, between 8am and 3.30pm.
At 4pm, visitors can enjoy an exhibition of their pictures, which will close with an awards ceremony at 6pm.
