AI IS THE topic of Wokingham Positive Difference’s next breakfast meeting.
The group, which brings together people from business, local government, and charity sectors, discusses a range of relevant topics delivered by a different speaker each month.
The next session will be led by Rodney H. Jones, Professor of Sociolinguistics and Digital Media at the University of Reading.
He will ask: How can we safely and ethically integrate AI into the workplace in ways that enhance, rather than erode, human productivity, creativity, and satisfaction?
And how can we avoid the well-publicised pitfalls of AI implementation, such as loss of human oversight, de-skilling, the amplification of bias, and employee alienation?
Professor Jones will also explore human centred approaches to bringing AI into the workplace and community settings.
Drawing on recent research, he will show how the way AI is introduced and used (whether as a tool, a collaborator, or a decision-maker) profoundly shapes people’s sense of agency, creativity, and control.
He will also discuss how organisational communication practices and workplace culture can impact the possibilities for successful AI implementation.
His talk will offer practical strategies for involving frontline stakeholders in the design and deployment of custom AI tools that meet the real needs of their organisations or communities.
Participatory design not only leads to more useful technologies, it also builds trust, distributes ownership, and fosters collective learning, he will explain.
And if AI is to be our colleague rather than our competitor, we need to involve all stakeholders in deciding on the shape this collaboration will take.
Wokingham Positive Difference offers open networking, buffet breakfast of bacon rolls, pastries, and fresh fruit, and news updates from the team, local businesses, government, and community groups.
The next event takes place at Wokingham Town Hall, on Friday, April 17, from 8am until 9.45am.
Tickets cost £17 for members and £25 for visitors.
