A WOKINGHAM church will be holding a Christmas service for people who may be feeling sad, worried, or anxious.
“Every advert and shop window tells us this is a time of joy and we should be happy,” said All Saints Church Rector Revd Hannah Higginson.
“Lights are twinkling and people are starting to wish one another a Merry Christmas.
“But for many of us, life is challenging, and the reality of our Christmas can feel very different from the expectations around us.
“We may have lost someone close or may be separated from family and friends.
“We may be alone or isolated, we may be suffering with our own health and mental well-being or be worried about that of a loved one.
“We may find there is simply not enough money to make ends meet, and the prospect of the pressure of Christmas fills us with dread.
“None of this sounds merry or bright but it is the reality so many of us are facing.”
The Blue Christmas offers a warm welcome to everyone, whether they feel joyful or despairing.
“If Christmas is a hard time for you,” said Hannah, “If you would appreciate some company and a complimentary hot soup meal, or if you would simply find pleasure in a more peaceful, reflective service at this busy time of year, please join us for our Blue Christmas service.”
Followed by a free meal of hot soup, the event is sponsored by Co-op Funeral Care.
It takes place at All Saints Church, Norreys, Wokingham, on Sunday, December 21, at 4pm.
