Wokingham Pride has announced The Dukes Head as another sponsor for this year’s event.
The pub in Denmark Street has, in its own inimitable style, gone above and beyond, in that the sponsorship also includes being the collection point and storage for items for Wokingham Pride’s tombola stall, and also venue for the after party event, complete with live band.
Landlady Claire was keen to support Wokingham Pride, which will take place on Saturday, June 11,as she is also a host for meetings for the LGBTQ+ group – a sanctuary where they can be amongst friends and enjoy themselves.
She said: “It’s a subject that’s very close to me family wise.
“I know how people can feel when they are subject to names and jokes at their expense, intended to humiliate them.
“If it’s in the pub they get thrown out, and may not make it through the door of other Wokingham pubs.”
“I have seen first hand the damage that can do, so I want The Duke’s Head to be a place of safety, of sanctuary for them.”
If you have any donations for the tombola, Claire will gladly take them.
