DESPITE all the weather could throw at it, a crocheted Christmas tree still stands in Wokingham.
Made by borough crafters The Barkham Hookers, the festive decoration made from granny squares is brightening up Peach Place.
It took more than 200 squares to complete the tree, with further crocheted decorations and ornamental presents added afterwards.
To give it some strength a structure was built for the installation by Wokingham’s Men’s Shed group, which seems to have given it the stability needed to withstand recent storms.
The crafters have enjoyed bringing woolly festive fun to town, and recommend that people passing through Peach Place take a look.
They are particularly pleased with the gonk that sits at its top.
Gaynor White, leader of the Barkham Hookers, said: “A bit of emergency sewing was required following bad weather, but it’s holding up.”
“Although Santa is now looking a bit unsteady – he must have been on the grog.”
The Christmas crochet tree can be seen in Wokingham’s Peach Place.
