FEMALE singers wishing to join a friendly community choir are invited to contact a Sonning music group.
Bel Canto Ladies Choir currently has 27 members and is seeking more women to join them.
No auditions are required, and the ability to read music is not essential.
Musical director Diane Prince arranges a varied repertoire of classical, folk, and contemporary music.
She said: “This is a friendly community choir, and women of all ages and abilities are very welcome.
“You just have to come with enthusiasm and a willingness to have a go.”
The Bel Canto main choir tackles music with varying degrees of difficulty to suit a range of experience.
“There really is something for everyone, from beginners right up to experienced singers,” Ms Prince added.
“We buddy people up with someone to help show them the ropes, and I say to everyone, do the very best you can, and listen to the person next to you.”
For singers wanting greater musical challenge, Ms Prince also runs a chamber choir.
She describes Bel Canto as not simply a musical group, but a sociable and safe space for women to be together.
“We always stop in the middle of rehearsal for tea and a natter,” she said.
Experienced singers, those who have sung in the past and wish to take it up again, and women with no singing background, are all invited to try the choir out.
It meets on Monday evenings during term time.
Rehearsals are split between Pearson Hall in Sonning and Christ Church Woodley.
This term the choir will begin working towards a Christmas concert that will take place in St Andrews Church, Sonning on Saturday, September 9.
Anyone interested in trying out the choir should email: [email protected] or visit the group’s Facebook page.
