RESIDENTS at a Lower Earley care home made the most of an opportunity to thank staff as it marked National Carers Week earlier this month.
Austen House Care Home turned the tables and saw staff treated to a pizza party.
The event was an opportunity to recognise the work that the carers provide to those living in the Kilnsea Drive home.
The theme for this year’s Carers Week was ‘recognising and supporting carers in the community’.
At the party, family and friends arrived throughout to join in, and residents gave handmade cards and letters to carers with a token of appreciation.
Joseph Patterson, the home’s general manager, said: “It is so wonderful to be able to celebrate Carers Week and thank our fantastic carers with an afternoon party and to be able to welcome the relatives and friends. Everyone has had such a fantastic day.”
Jane, a resident at Austen House, said: “We’ve all had such a lovely time today, it really is a joy to be able to thank our wonderful carers for all that they do. They really are heaven-sent.”
