Plans have been approved that will be a former depot transformed into a place of worship.
Officers from Wokingham Borough Council have approved the plans for the property 19 Grovelands Road in Spencers Wood.
In documents submitted in support of the change of use, agents for the applicant noted the property would be used by the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church.
“It will provide a local hall for the congregation within the village, whilst full congregation meetings take place at Three Mile Cross hall near Shinfield.
“A range of local halls provide for local provision to encourage shorter trips and create opportunities for walking and cycling.
“The church is a family-based facility with high car occupancy, and the level of use is solely for religious services.
“There are no social functions undertaken.”
It said the development is a change of use of the existing front building and yard, with minor works for repair and upgrade of the building, and with no external alterations or internal works.
In approving the plans, Wokingham Borough Council ordered there should be no more than four services per week, and the services are to last no longer than one hour.
It also said the maximum attendance at the hall shall not exceed 35 persons at any one time.
Several objections were received during the consultation period.
One resident noted how the application fundamentially changes the use profile of this building.
“Its previous use meant that all traffic was confined to weekdays during the day, with little or nothing happening in the evenings or weekends.
“The change of use will change that to something which is generally used at weekends and during the evening.
“This will have a negative effect on those living nearby on a quiet residential road.”
Officers made the decision to approve the change of use on October 11.
