A CONSULTATION over a new school for the borough is being planned for tomorrow night (Wednesday, June 22).
Floreat Education is planning to open a new school for Spencers Wood in time for the new academic year, which will start in September.
It will help ease the pressure on school places in the borough and act as a sister school to a Floreat branch planned for Montague Park.
The consultation will be held on Wednesday, June 22, from 6pm to 8pm, for interested parties to learn more about the plans and give feedback.
It will take place at Oakbank School in Hyde End Lane, Shinfield RG7 1ER – and if the school is approved, it will open on a site next to the Oakbank.
Places can be booked in advance. Parents unable to attend can also answer a questionnaire which includes information about the school’s values and visions. It needs to be answered by Thursday, June 23.
Floreat Education is a new company, established just two years ago, with a vision of creating what it says will be “a family of world-class schools where every child can flourish”.
It has two primary schools currently open, in Wandsworth and Brentford. Three more will open in September in Southall, Colindale and Wokingham. Spencers Wood will be their sixth school.
One of its key values is to operate a longer school day from 8.30am to 3.30pm and Key Stage 2 children will have an extra hour three days a week for extra-curricular activities. It will also run regular science projects and aims to encourage children’s characters as well as learning.
A blog post on its website said: “Members of the community and stakeholders have the opportunity to have their say and ensure that their needs will be met. Local knowledge is the key to assuring an outstanding school in years to come.”
