WOKINGHAM Borough Council is proposing a range of measures which it says will make parking easier.
The plans include extending existing permit zones in Wokingham town, and introducing a new digital permit scheme for households.
“If adopted, we think they’d make it much easier for people to park near where they live and generally make things fairer in areas where there’s high demand,” said a council representative.
The proposal includes expanding the existing permit zones in Wokingham town and creating new and expanded permit zones in Twyford.
Most of these would be defined by area, rather than specific streets, and the council says it would create more parking space for people who live in them.
It says: “We aren’t seeking to change the existing zones in Emmbrook, Earley or Remenham, but we are proposing policies that would affect all zones including these ones.
“This includes a new digital permit scheme, a cap of up to two permits per household and a clear process for agreeing new permit zones if people want them.
“They also include introducing visitors’ parking permits, changing the hours of enforcement, a new tiered pricing model and making multi-occupancy households eligible for residents’ permits.”
The council says there has been a good response so far, but that it wants to hear from as many people as possible to ensure the policy truly reflects people’s views.
The plans can be found on the council’s Engage Wokingham Borough platform, as well as a survey that runs until Sunday, September 28.
