Wokingham Borough Council is set to offer free parking alongside a popular town centre event in February.
After the cancellation of this year’s Wokingham Winder Carnival, it said the money it had allocated to offer free parking would be used to support businesses in the town in other ways.
Speaking exclusively to Wokingham Today, Cllr Mark Ashwell, executive member for economic development, sports and the arts, confirmed that plans are being confirmed that will see free parking in town centre car parks on Sunday, February 9, 2024, the day of celebrations to mark the lunar new year.
Wokingham town council, as in previous years, has arranged activities to mark the occasion, including two lion dance performances.
Cllr Ashwell said: “I hope our businesses will get behind this initiative, and take advantage of the event that will see lots of people in our town.”
He confirmed that around £6,000 was previously allocated to providing free parking for the Wokingham Winter Carnival.
